LOCATION OF EXISTING SYSTEM COMPONENTS
This service is not included within our set septic inspection fee.If the location of your system is unknown to you we will have equipment on hand to locate and access the system. Due to the nature of the work, Septic System Locating work is billed on an hourly basis. Older homes which have changed owners several times frequently have little or no information available regarding the location and components of the existing septic system. Locating of the septic tank, distribution box, and drainage field (leach lines or seepage pits) are required to perform a thorough inspection of any treatment system. Compounding the problem is that fact that many of these systems where installed without the now required risers to grade which maintain access to the system for proper inspection and maintenance. Consequently video and electronic locating equipment is required to locate most systems. This is followed by manually trenching from the surface.
VISUAL EXAMINATION OF THE SEPTIC TANK
Our septic inspectors first locate the septic system and open the tank cover. An examination of the inlet and outlet baffles is crucial both to our inspection and for a onsite wastewater treatment system to function properly. A determination of the approximate volume of the sewage treatment tank is made (generally following a measured septic tank pumping which is suggested prior to the inspection). The tank is then inspected for any visible cracks, corrosion and/or leakage that may compromise the effectiveness of the system. A visual inspection of area surrounding the system is made with inspection of any adjacent areas that have foul odor, this could suggest that the drainage field is not functioning properly.
DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM INSPECTION Malibu Septic certified septic inspectors examine the distribution box for proper division of effluent, as well as leakage, cracks, and corrosion. In areas with large plants or trees, roots commonly enter leach lines and partially and eventually completely constrict effluent from properly disbursing, thus causing premature failure of the leach field. If deemed necessary due to site conditions, inspection all pipes leading to and from the distribution box are examined using digital video technology. Any pipes that are cracked or corroded will be identified at this time.
ABSORPTION FIELD INSPECTION
Our septic system inspectors may use digital video to visually inspect pipes leading to the leach field or seepage pit. A visual inspection of area surrounding the system is made with a note being made of any foul odor which could suggest that a drainage field is not functioning properly.
